The Lightning Thief

My step-father, Kevin McDowell, showed me that reading is truly magical. He showed me that you are not confined to the inside of your house, state, country, or even universe. Reading can take you anywhere, any time you want! Kevin died on March 24th, 2009. The one thing that he would always do for me, was buy me ANY book that I wanted. He used to be an English teacher and he shared his love of fantasies and literature with me. That was how our bond started and how it held so strongly. I dedicate this book review page to him, because I know that if he were here, he would be sitting here helping me with this!!

Reading is something that I have always loved to do. I love to be able to visit the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, fly over metal cities on a hoverboard, and look at the glistening vampires in Forks,Washington. Wouldn’t you love to see those places as well?

I’ve read over 20 books since last August. That may seem like a lot to some and very few to others, but I just cant help it! I get absorbed. I cried when Dumbledore died, I became furious when Edward left Bella, and I became excited when Lyra was riding on an Armored Bear through the snowy North. Books take you places and make you feel emotion. You may not realize it, but they do.

“I've traveled the world twice over,

Met the famous; saints and sinners,

Poets and artists, kings and queens,

Old stars and hopeful beginners,

I've been where no-one's been before,

Learned secrets from writers and cooks

All with one library ticket

To the wonderful world of books.“
